The name of one of the biggest shipping companies – FedEx, has become a disguise for the latest malicious creations of cyber criminals. The creativeness of hackers is endless and this is proved by a new spam email which pretends to be a common form sent by FedEx. The email seems to be an ordinary message sent to give information about a new agent file form of the big company. However, it turns out that this is nothing but the latest scam message sent to mislead unsuspecting PC users into thinking they have received a reliable email from FedEx which is supposed to give some details about the paper SED, which has been replaced by the new FedEx Export AgentFile form. This email has no other intention but to transfer malicious files to the targeted computers and spread a new FedEx tracking number virus.
Spam messages with interesting subjects which attract the attention of people are often used by hackers to spread fraudulent and compromised files. This time the tricky technique is perfectly covered by the well-known name of FedEx. The e-mail does not only have a trustworthy subject, but it even has a tracking id number and is signed by FedEx. If you happen to receive this email, you will see that it contains information about EEI shipments, which must be “filed electronically with the government prior to tendering the shipments to FedEx”. The email claims to provide the necessary form for EEI shipments as an attachment. The message includes even further details about this form and the way in which it has to be filled in. Reliable as the content of the email may seem, the truth is that it is just a cover for the deceitful plan of cyber criminals and the attack of the FedEx tracking number virus.
When sending you this email, hackers have only one goal – to make you download the archived file. It contains the Trojan-based infection created by hackers to infect your machine. The malicious file is detected by reliable and effective anti-malware tools and is known to contain the compromised executable file FedEx-AgentFileForm.exe. If a person activates this file, the infection is transferred to the targeted computer and it can immediately start its fraudulent plan.
As it is known, cyber criminals are always aimed at making personal profit and for that reason you have to be aware that spam emails often contain infected files or links which redirect you to some compromised web page. For that reason, be extremely cautious when opening unknown files and attachments, as infecting a PC may take the virus only a few seconds to penetrate into the system. Do not be beguiled by this tricky creation of cyber criminals, which misuses the FedEx name, and mark the email as spam.
